The Office of Economic and Community Development is a department of the Office of External Affairs that helps to create new and broader economic development opportunities for the people living throughout the coastal areas of Georgia. Established in 2000, the office is charged with marshalling the university's resources to promote quality economic and community development that contributes to job generation and income growth in Georgia. The university's strategic plan describes the institution's commitment to community and economic development. AASU serves as a hub of knowledge that extends cultural, intellectual and economic benefits to the state and region. The university plays a key role in the development of productive citizens and future professionals. The Office of Economic and Community Development demonstrates this commitment by identifying, coordinating and directing the assets and strengths of the university to further community and economic development. AASU employees provide knowledge and professional assistance to Georgia communities in identifying and addressing complex urban and regional issues. Public-private partnerships serve to leverage university resources in support of business and workforce development. By matching the expertise and resources of the university with the needs of private business, government and community based economic development organizations AASU provides strategic planning, leadership development, education and training, community analysis and research and other technical support.
